Two-process model simulation

Image of a simulation
If you have problems with the Java applet, go to the Java test page.

The simulation shows the interaction of the homeostatic Process S and the circadian Process C, where C modulates two thresholds for S, Hm+C and Lm+C. If S exceeds the upper threshold, sleep is initiated, and if S falls below the lower threshold, sleep is terminated.

4 days are being simulated. Sleep episodes are marked with black bars; sleep duration is indicated inside the black bars (in hours).

How to use the simulation

The time course of Process S was derived from slow-wave activity, which exhibits a global declining trend during sleep and whose level at the beginning of sleep increases with prior waking.
