1980, Austrian, Prof. Dr. sc. Nat
Gerald Schwank has started his research lab as an Associate Professor in the Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Zurich in August 2019.
He studied Genetics at the University of Vienna, and obtained his PhD in Molecular Biology in 2009 from the University of Zurich. During his PhD he studied how different signaling pathways synergistically interact to control organ growth. In 2011 he moved as an HSFP postdoctoral research fellow to the Hubrecht Institute in Utrecht, where he developed approaches to correct disease-causing mutations in human adult stem cells. During his time as an Assistant Professor at the ETH Zurich he further optimized genome editing technologies for in vivo applications in the liver. The goal of his current research at the University of Zurich is to translate genome editing technologies from bench to bedside in order to cure genetic disorders.
